Brain Surgery for Adrienna
My name is Adrienna Zsakay; I am 62 and the CEO of Circular Economy Asia, an NGO registered in Malaysia that works on implementing the circular economy across the Asian region. It is a job I truly love, and I cannot imagine working anywhere else, nor consider the prospect of retiring. There is too much life left to live and work to do. My best work is yet to come.
Early in the morning on 18 March 2021 immediately after I picked up some paper off the floor, an intense wave of dizziness overcame me, resulting in a day of vomiting, body spasms, and all-consuming headaches. Two days later, I was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm in my cerebellum (the orange part in the picture).
Now the medical bills have to be paid and an operation to stop the bleeding yet to be performed. While there is a little time, there is not a lot of time available for this procedure to be performed.
Currently, I am based in Melaka and will need to go to Kuala Lumpur (2 hours north of Melaka) for a few days for the operation. We choose our jobs and make our choices based on what we believe. I chose to stay in Malaysia, to stay working on implementing the circular economy because I believed one day it would be all worth it. All the tough times would vindicate my beliefs. Covid 19 changed the game forever. There is no going back now. I am glad I stayed.
However, I do think health insurance is also next on the cards…
